C•Xchange™ is the industry’s only field-swappable conductivity sensor. Any C•Xchange™ sensor can be connected to any other C•Xchange™ enabled instrument - when you want, where you want - without compromising calibration accuracy.
The benefits of field-swappable sound velocity sensors are dramatic; please review our discussion paper "Six Advantages to Field-Swappable Sensors" for more detail.

C•Xchange™ is now in the final stages of field-testing with market availability expected by the end of 2009. Once available, C•Xchange™ can be ordered as an option on all models of AML Oceanographic instruments: Minos (logger), Plus v2 (logger), Smart (real-time), and Micro (real-time).

Key Features of Xchange™ Sensors
|
|
|
Field Swappable: Each Xchange™ sensor - Sound Velocity, Conductivity, Temperature, or Pressure can be installed on any other instrument which has been enabled for that same type of Xchange sensor, without compromising sensor accuracy. Sensors can be swapped in minutes, without special tools. Sensors are robust, compact, and easy-to-handle.
Embedded Calibration: Xchange™ sensors have on-board intelligence that allows calibration coefficients and other critical calibration information to travel with the sensor.
Data Traceability: All data files automatically include the Xchange™ sensor serial number and its calibration date, assuring traceability of data.
Multi Range: Xchange™ sensors of varying ranges can be deployed on one instrument. For example, two P•Xchange™ pressure sensors of varying ranges - 100m and 6000m - can be used on the same instrument to maximize resolution and accuracy at every depth.

With Xchange sensors, instrument recalibration is as simple as unscrewing the sensor installed on the instrument end-cap and replacing it with a new sensor. The pictures below demonstrate the ease with which Xchange sensors can be swapped. No tools are required. New sensors install in minutes, are robust, compact, and easy to store.

An Xchange sensor can be placed on any other instrument that has been previously equipped with an Xchange sensor of that same type.
For example, an SV•Xchange™ sensor can be moved from one instrument to another instrument that was previously equipped with a different SV•Xchange™ sensor. An SV•Xchange™ sensor cannot be installed in the end-cap location of a P•Xchange™, C•Xchange™, or T•Xchange™sensor. Xchanges cannot be installed on previous generation AML Oceanographic instruments without upgrades to the mechanicals and electronics of the instrument in question.
